About this Death Cafe
A Death Cafe is an opportunity to meet with a group of strangers to talk about death in a safe, welcoming space. There’s no agenda, no experts, just open-hearted conversation.
A Queer Death Cafe is a safe, inclusive space for people from LGBTQIA+ communities to have these conversations without needing to hide key parts of their identity.
It is not grief therapy or bereavement counselling. It is the opportunity to share thoughts, ask questions, talk about concerns and just ponder big questions about life, death and our place in the universe.
And it's not morbid! Talking about death can be very life-affirming, and being in a room with other people who want to talk about it too can help us feel less alone. In a society where conversations about death and grief can feel taboo, being in a space where we will intentionally get straight into deep and meaningful conversations is liberating.
3 of Cups Durham is a friendly space and we will have exclusive use during the Death Cafe. Buy a drink and maybe a cake and settle down on one of their comfy sofas for a couple of hours of interesting conversation, all about death.
